Science Week- Day 4 Form a gas!

We managed to blow up a balloon without even using a pump! First we put some vinegar in a bottle. Then, using a funnel, we filled a balloon with Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking soda). We then stretched the neck of the balloon over the bottle and lifted the balloon so the Sodium Bicarbonate fell into the vinegar. This caused the same reaction you get when making volcanoes. What was really cool though was the carbon dioxide gas that was being released causing the balloon to inflate.

  2. This was quite smelly. It was amazing how heavy the balloon was to hold. It just dropped on the ground and bounced.

  3. Hi!
It was cool how Mrs Brieseman filled half the balloon with baking soda and put the tip of the balloon onto the vinegar bottle and held the balloon up making the baking soda go into the bottle. Then the mix of both ingredients rose and filled the balloon with air.
