On Tuesday the 24 May Kate, Joseph, Mark, Teara and Madison went to Te Rauparaha in Porrirua for the Jump rope for Heart foundation. When we got there, a lot of other schools were there already.
We were introduced to Peter Nestler who has won the skipping world championship, seven times in a row. WOW!
First he showed us two skips in one jump, and then the same one backwards. After that he showed us a routine that he has been working on. It was amazing he did three skips in one jump he through the rope up in the air and caught it again on the handles then he did a jump sideways and skipped. It was INCREDABLE!
Peter asked all the children to come down and get a rope in our age group. First we skipped forwards for a minute and then skipped backwards for another minute. After that we all tried to do two skips in one jump. It was hard.
After morning tea we got with a partner we didn’t know and got a longer rope to try do something called ‘The Traveler’. It is when you have a partner and try to skip over the other person.
We had an awesome day learning new jumps and seeing what fun you can get out of a skipping rope. We slept well that night!
